Dewey came in several years ago when his people had to move to a place that didn’t allow dogs. He was with us long enough for everyone at the shelter to fall in love with him. After five years in what we hoped was his forever home, he came back recently, again because his person was moving and couldn’t take him with her.
He’s older and slower, but still a very friendly, happy boy, and so patient. At almost ten years old, Dewey still likes to chase tennis balls and go for walks with all of us, but he poops out more quickly and turns into a total couch potato. He’s also somewhat overweight, so a home where he gets enough exercise to slim down would be ideal.
Dewey likes most other dogs, although he would need to meet any canine housemates at the shelter. He’s good with kids, but not a fan of cats. Dewey will need a fully fenced yard. He’s on a grain-free diet for life, but healthy otherwise.

Pet meet and greets are by appointment only, so if you’d like to meet him, submit an application in advance by going to the shelter’s Adopting a Pet page at https://www.co.clatsop.or.us/animalcontrol/page/adopting-pet. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the application. Be sure to date it next to the signature line (applications are reviewed in the order they are received) and put the name of the animal you are interested in at the top. You can then save the application to your computer and email it to ac@co.clatsop.or.us or deliver it directly to the shelter. Application forms are also available on the front door of the shelter and can be filled out and turned in on the spot. A shelter staff member will review the app and call you to set up an appointment.
