“Anyone owned by cats understands that as creatures, they don’t like change. Move a sofa, they think they’ve been teleported to a strange new land. Leave a shoe someplace it shouldn’t be, they prowl around it with deep suspicion and possibly a swipe or slap of a paw. Some cats are actually pretty adaptable, adjusting to new things speedily, while other require a little more time.
Sonny needs a little more time. The circumstances which brought him to the shelter have likely had an impact on his reticence (animals experience things like depression, anxiety – perhaps differently to how humans do, yet they do have these yokes to bear too), but he is quickly warming up and venturing out and about. He would prefer to go at his own pace, and for everyone to respect that. He doesn’t seem terribly fond of the other cats at this moment in time, though with proper introductions and boundaries, he would likely be just fine in a household setting.
He is also a stunner of a cat. With his deep russet coat and soulful eyes, Sonny could be on television. He is just plump enough to be adorable. As we tumble quickly into autumn, perhaps think about getting your first pumpkin loaf of the season. The first one is always the best, and Sonny will prove that to you.

Pet meet and greets are by appointment only, so if you’d like to meet him, submit an application in advance by going to the shelter’s Adopting a Pet page at https://www.co.clatsop.or.us/animalcontrol/page/adopting-pet. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the application. Be sure to date it next to the signature line (applications are reviewed in the order they are received) and put the name of the animal you are interested in at the top. You can then save the application to your computer and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org or deliver it directly to the shelter. Application forms are also available on the front door of the shelter and can be filled out and turned in on the spot. A shelter staff member will review the app and call you to set up an appointment.
