Baxter Black is our KMUN, THE ASTORIAN, 94.9 THE BRIDGE, WARRENTON KIA, and HITS 94.3 KRKZ Pet of the Week for the week of March 14, 2021

Adopted! Volunteers say he likes to watch out the cat room window at all the activity in the shelter lobby once he has gotten attention, affection, and love. This four year old boy likes other cats but would prefer a home without dogs.

Pet meet and greets are by appointment only, so if you’d like to meet Baxter, submit an application in advance by going to the shelter’s Adopting a Pet page at https://www.co.clatsop.or.us/animalcontrol/page/adopting-pet. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the application. Be sure to date it next to the signature line (applications are reviewed in the order they are received) and put the name of the animal you are interested in at the top. You can then save the application to your computer and email it to ac@co.clatsop.or.us. A shelter staff member will review it and call you to set up an appointment. Due to Covid restrictions, only two people are allowed in the shelter at one time and each visitor is asked several health-related questions before being allowed in.

Lola’s Road Trip – She’s now adopted!

Volunteers Natalie and Sue recently took Lola on a little adventure to get her out of the shelter, explore and have some fun. Natalie reports, “As it turns out Lola is amazing in a car! She likes to look out of the window to see where she’s headed and then she happily curls up to nap. We made sure to cover the backseat in blankets and her dog bed for an extra comfy ride.

Our first stop was Multnomah Falls. We went for a hike, sniffed around and even posed for a photo op in front of the falls. Lola was so polite to all of the other visitors and even got to play in the snow…something we don’t see very often on the coast! Lola met a family and proved again how well behaved she is with children; she used to live with kids and really likes them. A new friend offered Lola a treat, which she took very gently, as always. We kept driving and on our next walk Lola met two male dogs and walked very nicely by their side while wagging her tail. We were so proud of her good manners. Our last stop was lunch (Lola lucked out) before finally heading back home to the shelter.

One day very soon we are hoping home for Lola is with a loving family. She would prefer to curl up on a couch, in the sun if possible, with her new owner petting the top of her head as she falls asleep…that is our wish for you, dear Lola. Hopefully your next trip will be home.”

Alaska is our KMUN, THE ASTORIAN, 94.9 THE BRIDGE, WARRENTON KIA, HITS 94.3 KRKZ, and CLATSOP NEWS Pet of the Week for the week of December 13, 2020

Alaska is looking for a home where she can share her affection and love of life (although her affectionate nature doesn’t extend to cats). This young German shepherd will happily spend hours playing ball or walking before cuddling up for a nap.

Alaska needs ongoing medication and a special diet; call the shelter at 503-861-7387 for an appointment or for more information about her special needs. The shelter is open 11:00 to 4:00 Tuesday through Saturday. You can also fill out an application at the shelter’s Adopting a Pet page: https://www.co.clatsop.or.us/animalcontrol/page/adopting-pet. Scroll to the bottom of the page for the application.

Watch her in action here.

Check out her Petfinder profiles at https://www.petfinder.com/dog/alaska-49145462/or/warrenton/clatsop-county-animal-control-services-or53/ or http://clatsopcounty.animalshelternet.com/adoption_animal_details.cfm?AnimalUID=248008

Keeping Everyone Safe and Healthy at the Animal Shelter with Adoptions by Appointment Only

Like other organizations in the area, the shelter has established new procedures to minimize everyone’s exposure to the COVID-19 virus. First, all licensing must be done by mail while an online system is being set up. Sorry, no walk-ins.

If you’d like to visit with one of our dogs or cats, you will need to call and make an appointment at 503-861-7387. The shelter will be taking appointments from 11:00 to 4:00 Tuesday through Saturday. If the line is busy you can leave a message and the staff will call you back. Note that you will be asked several health-related questions before you are allowed in.

Only two people are allowed in the shelter at any one time, so if a larger group of you wants to visit a dog, you can meet up outside. Only one person and one volunteer are allowed in the cat room at a time.

The shelter has lots of pups and kitties who would love to find homes, so please check out who’s available at Petfinder (https://www.petfinder.com/member/us/or/warrenton/clatsop-county-animal-control-services-or53/) and follow CAA’s Facebook page for more in-depth profiles of our available animals at https://www.facebook.com/ClatsopAnimalAssistance/. Again, the phone number for questions or to make an appointment is 503-861-7387.

Thank you for your patience!
